ADMS 2511 Chapter 17 Notes Summary
Introduction
Inspirational Leadership
It’s siplisti to thik eploees are guided to goal aoplishets solel  the
actions of their leaders.
We have introduced a number of variablessuch as attitudes, personality, ability, and
group norms that affect employee performance and satisfaction.
Leadership is simply another independent variable in our overall organizational
behaviour (OB) model.
Sometimes the difference between substitutes and neutralizers is fuzzy.
If I am working on a task that is intrinsically enjoyable, theory predicts that leadership
will be less important because the task itself provides enough motivation.
But does that mean intrinsically enjoyable tasks neutralize leadership effects, or
substitute for them, or both?
Another problem is that while substitutes for leadership (such as employee
characteristics, the nature of the task, and so forth) matter to performance, that does
not necessarily mean that leadership does not matter to performance.
Bre Willias ats to reate a e geeratio of ulture-earers, a goal he takes
very seriously.
As the leader of the Tsawwassen First Nation, he has begun realizing this goal in a
number of ways.
The mega malls being built on Tsawwassen lands are a good start, since they will create
a convenient and high-profile location to market traditional arts and crafts.
Willias’ isio eteds far eod that, hoeer.
As a trained carver, he teaches Salish coastal art to Tsawwassen children at a weekly
book and art club, helping to develop the talents of young artists.
This contact also makes him accessible to local children and youth.
