Document Summary

Telling liesel about eloise was not what henry expected. He rarely talked to people; this included talking about eloise. He never let himself talk to anyone about her, or any part of his life, for that matter. People simply assumed he had nothing to say. He takes care of the dead, he can talk to them, and they will always listen, never talk back, never criticize or respond with an argument. Henry, he knew, had a good thing going, with the graveyard. But he found himself unable to stop talking, when liesel sat down with him, and asked him to talk. He thought, at first, that the girl was lacking friends, was lonely because she knew no one, had just moved here, hadn"t had the opportunity to meet anyone her own age. He quickly realized, however, that she was justinterested. She sat in silence, and listened to him for hours. She never argued, never criticized, never asked questions.
