Document Summary
Binary values- way in which computer hardware represent and manage information. Base= number system that specifies number of digits used in system. Digits= 0 and continue one less than base. 2 digits in base 2, 0 and 1, there are 10 digits in base 10: 0 through 9. Positional notation: system of expressing number in which digits are arranged in succession, the position of each digit have place value and number is equal to sum of product of each digit by its place value. Computer technique called hashing takes numbers and scrambles them, and one way to scramble number is to interpret them in different base. Base 8 (octal) digits 0-7, base 16(hexadecimal) digits 0-15, base 2(binary) digits 0-1. So, 943 could not represent base less than 10 because digit 9 doesn"t exist in those bases. So you got to use base 10 or higher. Abacus: uses positional notation to represent decimal number.
