But in situations with the complexity illustrated above, there is rarely a single cause and any action usually has more than one effect. Changes ripple through the system in unexpected ways and create many problems. Holistic, systemic modes of thinking are needed to deal with problems in this kind of situation. They quickly nd high paying jobs elsewhere and cash in on the retirement o er. The less e ective managers and specialists feel that they have nowhere to go.
