States as opposed to any other country in the world is because of the increase in population growth in america, which resulted in more demand for higher degrees of product standardization (107). The increase in population stemmed from not only natural increase but the growing rate of immigration in the 1840s. Both of these factors caused the u. s. population to grow at a rate of 3 percent per year; more than twice as high than that of european countries. Rapid population growth resulted in a very high rate of new household formation and therefore a rapid rate of growth in the demand for a wide range of manufactured commodities (107). This means that as the population was increasing, the demand for more efficient goods and services was also increasing, introducing the demands and supply of manufactured commodities.
