Note: this dialogue takes place about 400 bce given by account of plato towards socrates and euthyphro. We do not have any first-hand writings from socrates so we take plato"s word. Story begins with euthyphro meeting socrates at the gates of the king-archon"s court. Socrates says that he is there because meletus has charged him with corrupting the young and for not believing in the gods of the city . When asked why he (euthyphro) is there, he replies to socrates that he is prosecuting his own father for the murder of a labourer who is himself a murderer. Both his family and friends are against him taking this charge upon his own father. They accuse euthyphro to being impious and so this story is focused around the nature of piety and how it may be defined. Back to socrates and the nature of his criminal case:
