Document Summary
No: paul barker, limits on the power of the prime minister . Argument 1: canada is not ruled by one person"s ideas, suggestions, and decisions, but by government approved and provincial decisions. Power is not just in the hands of the executive branch, but the government is divided up between the two other branches, which include the legislative, and judiciary (charlton, p123). The legislature assigns fewer challenges in the executive compared to the other two branches. For instance, a bill proposed by a private member receives more consideration by the ethic commissioner who would report to the parliament, not the prime minister (charlton, p. 123). The branches of government have complex relationships where the compete claims that are eventually voiced and debated. Argument 2: the prime ministers power has reduced with the functioning of globalization. In order for globalization to work the prime minister requires national leaders to make important decisions.
