Document Summary

Psychology comes from the greek words, psyche meaning the soul, and logos, referring to the study of a subject. Aristotle"s theory of memory suggested that memories are the result of three principles, of association; similarity, contrast, & contiguity. Descartes famously argued for the dualism of mind and body, that the mind and body were separate and fundamentally different, with the mind being (soul) immaterial & the province of god . Descartes also believed that processes and functions such as memory, perception, dreaming, and emotions were properties of the body and open to being understood. A new science is born: the contributions of wundt & hall. Wundt= founder of psychology in germany: stanely hall established america"s first research lab in psychology at johns hopkins university in 1883. 4 years later he launched america"s first psychology journal. In 1892 he was the driving force behind the establishment of american psychological. Association (apa) & was elected the first president.
