Document Summary
The model of atkinson and shiffrin concentrated on memory processing. Specifically it focused on memories that are explicit. Explicit memory refers to those memories of details and experiences that we are aware of and it is also known as declarative memory. However, our mind has another unconscious track. Memories are encoded through effortful processing that is aware. During this process, there happens to be other information that passes right by the conscious encoding track. What happens in this stage that most people do not know is that it goes straight into storage without stopping on the way. This process happens automatically, this occurs without us consciously knowing and then, implicit memories (nondeclarative memories) are formed. Automatic processing refers to unaware encoding of information by accident. This can include but not limited to time, acquired information, homonyms. Implicit memory refers to remembering, recollecting, recalling knowledge/skills. Implicit memory is also known as nondeclarative memory.
