Document Summary

Chapter 5 assessing the validity and reliability of diagnosic and screening tests. Necessary to disinguish from those in the populaion who have the disease and those who do not. A bimodal curve distribuion permits the separaion of individuals who had no prior experience to tuberculosis from those who had prior experience. Most human characterisics are not distributed bimodally. Validity of a test is deined by its ability to disinguish those who have a disease from those who do not. The sensiivity is deined as the ability of the test to idenify correctly those who have the disease. The speciicity of the test is deines as the ability of the test to idenify correctly those who do not have the disease. In real life when we use a test to determine a disease we have no idea who has the disease and who does not.
