Document Summary

It is important to provide statistics with corresponding information to prevent the findings from being understood the wrong way. For example it was said that birth control pills cause blood clotting, due to this statement many women stopped using it and there was a wave of unwanted pregnancies. If the statistics were shown then the public would know that blood clotting due to the pill if found in 2 in 7000 cases. The most common sets of data that are used are the mean, median and mode that generate a single number to account for many other numbers. Mean the arithmetic average of a distribution obtained by adding the scores and then dividing by the number of scores. Median the middle score in a distribution; when the scores are ordered from least to greatest. Mode the most frequently occurring score(s) in a distribution. The data can be a little biased based on the values in consideration.
