PSYC 2020 Chapter 12: CHAP 12 FINAL NOTES
Document Summary
Any physical or verbal behaviour that is intended to harm another person or persons (or any living thing). An aggressive act may be intended to cause physical harm or psychological harm. If a person intends to harm another people but isn"t successful, we consider this an aggressive act. Aggression can also be expressed in a deliberate failure to act not telling someone they are about to embarrass themselves because they want to see them humiliated. There are clear situations where people are expressing painful gestures where they do not intend to be aggressive lifeguard putting pressure on drowning person, biting during sex. When acts of aggression are physical, the harm can be in the form of pain, suffering, injury or death. Nonlethal types of violence, such as rape and assault can be psychologically traumatic for the victim this could lead to general feelings of anxiety, hyper-vigilance, etc.
