PSYC 2110 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Artificial Neural Network, Cognitive Development, Hindsight Bias
Document Summary
Trying to understand cognitive development from the perspective of understanding the psychological components (and their development) necessary for the processing of information. Information from the world enters and flows through a number of cognitive processes before ending as a response to the world. Control processes affect the maintenance of info and the movement from one store to another. Response generating mechanisms necessary to explain the eventual overt response. Working memory: the temporary, short-term storage and manipulation of information that is currently needed. Example, remembering a number from a phone book: limits: 1) capacity and 2) time. Infants as young as 2 months learn the sequence and can predict location of next picture. Increase number of items needed to keep track of in working memory (canfield & haith, 1991: found that 2-montholds could not do the 2-1 sequence but 3- mo-olds could. 3-month-olds could not do the 3-1 sequence (but 5-moolds could)
