Document Summary

Psyc 2120 readings for test 1: may 24. Social psychology is the scientific study of how people think about, influence, and relate to one another. Compared with sociology (the study of people in groups and societies), social psychology focuses more on individuals. Compared with personality psychology, social psychology focuses less on differences among individuals, and more on how individuals in general, view and affect one another. Social psychology studies our thinking, influence, and relationships. Social behaviour varies not just with the objective situation, but with how we construe it: social beliefs can be self-fulfilling. Social psychologists study attitudes and beliefs, conformity and independence, love and hate. Behaviour is a function of the person and the situation kurt lewin. Intuitions are powerful, but they are also perilous. We fail to appreciate how our expectations shape our evaluations. We intuitively trust our memories more than we should. Internal forces also matter: our inner attitudes affect our behaviour, personality dispositions also affect behaviour.
