In the 16th century (english) queer was used when referring to something illegitimate or strange. 19th century, it was used as cold. 1894 was the first time queer was recorded as hate speech. done by john sholto douglas, he accused oscar wilde of having an affair with his son. In the 1980s, people in the lgbqt communities began to reclaim the word. It became used as a natural term or a positive one. Queer activism is a term of sexuality gender activism that celebrates diversity. Queer studies is an academic discipline that moves beyond gay & lesbian to gain a broader understanding and approach to sexuality. Q-activism, queer studies, q-theory, share one opposition to identity politics: the idea of fighting for rights on the basis of identity. They argue that trying to fix yourself is problematic because it leaves no room for change.
