By 1900 over 100 psychology labs had been established and psych was widely recognized as an importatn and independent subject. Wundt was recognized as the founder of modern experimental psychology. Wundt believed that many important psychological problems could only be approached using non-experimental techniques, many didn"t believe with wundt on this and pushed new experimental science further and in different directions than wundt thought appropriate. Wundt also believed that psychology should exist with philosophy, but new experimental psychologist was trying to separate themselves from philosophy by making separate departments. Wundt got a reputation of being old fashioned and one historian said wundt"s psychology was an interruption in the development of a natural science of man.
