In these disorders, psychological problems take a physical form. No know physiological explanation and are not under voluntary control. Thought to be linked to psychological factors, presumably anxiety. Pain disorder and hypochondriasis are no longer distinct disorders in the dsm5. Body dysmorphic disorder a person is preoccupied with an imagined or exaggerated defect in appearance, frequently in the face. Hypochondriasis now diagnosed as somatic symptom disorder in dsm5, individuals are preoccupied with persistent fears of having a serious disease, despite medical reassurance to the contrary. Illness anxiety disorder is similar, but includes a high degree of anxiety about. Overreact to ordinary physical sensations and minor abnormalities. Health and somatic symptom are not present or are only mild in intensity. Health anxiety has been defined as health related fear and beliefs, based on interpretations, or perhaps more often, misinterpretations of bodily signs and symptoms as being indicative of serious illness. Dropped from dsm5, will now meet criteria for somatic symptom disorder.
