Cancer = major cause of death in canada: one out of four canadians will die from cancer. Breast cancer is most common cancer in women. Death rate from breast cancer in canada has dropped 25% since breast cancer screening programs were initiated across canada. Most common cause of cancer death in women under 50, striking one out of every 9 women at some point during her life. Must have different screening activities for women in different age and risk groups. Women aged 50-69 should have a mammogram every two to three years. Although clinical breast exams were formerly recommended, it isn"t anymore. Mammography rates among women 50-69 have reached 72%, up from 40% in 1990. There are certain segments of the population not participating in mammography screening. There are significant gaps in participation of mammography between women in the highest and lowest income groups.
