Document Summary

Group dynamics- the actions, processes, and changes that occur within groups and between groups. When people become linked together socially by some type of relationship. Small groups possess many unique characteristics, while larger groups can be subdivided as the members are rarely connected directly to all the other members. Membership: people in a group are linked by their membership (there are boundaries as some individuals are excluded) Interdependence- members depend on one another, their outcomes, actions, thoughts, feelings, and experiences are in uenced by others in the group (reciprocity[equal]/unequal), and symmetric/sequential/hierarchical) Structure: roles: di erent behaviours expected for people who occupy di erent positions within the group, norms: consensual standards that describe what behaviours should and should not be performed in a given context. The opinion of members of the higher status carry more weight than those of the rank-and- le members. Subgroups have more in uence on the rest of the group than they would individually.
