Research and the media tend to emphasize on gender differences compared to similarities. Studies on gender differences are done on white college student [not well representative of general population] The abilities for the two genders tend to show similarities and overlaps frequency distribution: how many people in a sample receive each score. Cognitive gender differences are not significant enough to be relevant to people"s career choice. Box-score approach/counting approach: researchers reading articles published on a specific topic and tallying up the results [type of integrative analysis] vs. meta-analysis: takes results and variability between the studied groups into account. D is the effect size which stands for difference between the groups measured. D is 0. 11 or less, difference is small and 0. 65 or higher is significant difference. Areas of gender similarity: general intelligence [men have higher variability, complex cognitive tasks, learning style and creativity.
