Assignment #2: report on women, education, and making change. Webber and coulter"s articles explore how gender, race and class play a role in education. Schools, through their organization are engaged in the work of reproducing and regulating particular normative constructions of masculinity and femininity. Masculinity is a privileged convivial category over femininity, and girls are discriminated due to their gender. Coulter states aggregated test results that identify the literacy problems of boys as the most salient gender issue in schools distort the reality that girls experience gender based challenges (coulter, p. 329). While reading the articles there were plenty of concepts, however, i have chosen three from webber"s and one from coulter"s that discusses discrimination of girls in schools. Webber"s article, women and education , verbalizes about gender inequality, racialization and classism. Gender inequality refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals wholly or partly due to their gender .
