Title: no news (chapter 2), people like us: misrepresenting the modern middle east. What we know as the arab world, or what we think we know, is very different than what the. It is made up of multiple countries, an assortment of languages and dialects, numerous cultures, different laws and governments, yet all are plagued by western civilization"s view that all these countries are violent and stuck in ancient times. Poverty led to an increase in pride and self-respect. (p. 32) Western society, especially the movies and news, portray the middle east as more medieval, dangerous, and very different. The reality, however, is middle eastern countries are very much like european and american countries. (pgs. 30 & 31) time, yet he is so surprised by what really goes on in these countries.
