Why study dance: part of history knowledge, understanding, respect, appreciation, love. Historical perspective: body used to express thoughts and emotions universally accepted. Influences on dance: politics, fashion, economics, religion. Dance is closely tied to the arts. Dances are reflections of the society in which they develop. Choreographer: dance is language, movement = words.
