Communication is a process of sending and receiving messages with meanings attached. Communication: interpersonal process of sending and receiving symbols with messages attached to them. Sender: encodes intended meaning sends thru message channel. Receiver decodes perceived meaning thru feedback channel. Communication is effective when the received understands the sender"s messages. Effective communication: receiver fully understands the sender"s intended message. Communication is efficient when it is delivered at low cost to sender. Effective communication occurs at a minimum cost in terms of resources expended. Communication is persuasive when the receiver acts as the sender intends. Persuasive communication: gets someone else to accept, support, and act consistent with sender"s message. Jay conger(scholar) defines credible communication as: that which earns trust, respect, and integrity. Charisma: ability to inspirationally persuade and motivate others.
