Document Summary

Ad = a progressive brain disorder that causes a gradual & irreversible loss of higher brain functions (i. e. , memory, language, perception of time/space, ability to care for self, etc. ) Ad was first identified in 1906 by alois alzheimer. He was under the false impression that it was a rare disorder. Those who suffer from ad experience frustration, anger, and fear as the disorder begins to strip away their abilities and memories. We still do not know the cause, nor the cure. Early-onset ad is very rare and occurs in people in their 30s-50s. Ad evolves slowly, and memory loss is usually one of the first noticeable symptoms. late-onset happens to those over 65 years. As ad progresses, depression becomes more frequent, along with insomnia, anorexia, muscular rigidity, etc. Final stage of ad comes with inability to care for yourself. The average length of time between first ad symptoms to death is 4-16 years.
