For 2 years, sonny struggled with concentration difficulties, anxiety, and obsessional thinking. For the past 1 year paranoid and delusional thoughts = persistent. Persecutory delusions police were coming after him. Delusions of reference watch tv and thought that the information was directed at him to remind him the police were coming after him. Symptoms started interfering with his janitorial work, so he was referred for hospital admission by his outpatient therapist. Negative symptoms = alogia, avolition, fixed on pot. He was adopted, so no family history. Says he has always been a loner with no friends. Social interactions are difficult parents say he is very sensitive to real/perceived criticism. Also hard for him to give oral presentations in college or participate in class. Sonny relates to father more than mother. Afraid he has hiv because he had unprotected sex one time, even though the person doesn"t have hiv and all sonny"s tests came up negative.
