Key processes of cultural circuit and practices of representation. Representation connects meaning and language to culture. Involves language and is part of the process of producing ad exchanging meaning. Representation is really the production of meaning through language. Symbolize, stand for, be a specimen of, or to substitute for. Intentional: does language only express what the author wants to say, their personally intended meaning. Constructionist: is meaning constructed in and through language (most significant for cultural studies) Concept of a glass (holding a glass, putting it down and leaving the room thinking about the glass) Representation links concepts and language for real world objects or the imaginary. First is the system where all sorts of objects, people and events are correlated with set of concepts or mental representations in our minds. (needed to interpret the world meaningfully) We form concepts of things we have never seen such as love and justice.
