In prehistoric times, definition of freedom posed no difficulties. Legal status of free men as opposed to slaves. Required considerable intellectual effort to get away from this definition and give it a new and enlarged meaning to the old concept of freedom. Now freedom as object of many definitions. Two levels of freedom (1) relative character of the concept (2) distinction between different types of freedom. All statements about freedom are means of communication always subject to misunderstanding and always provides only indirect hints. Concept of freedom as submission of individual to divine law and order. Terminology and definition plays important role for the history of freedom in the west. Usage of hurr: originate from the general human inclination to ascribe all bad qualities to those who were legally free man. Hurr went beyond the sphere of freedom > this is meaning. Free outside of the legal realm because a vague term of approval.
