Chapter 3. 4 hypothesis- educated guess: the scientific method is an overly simplistic characterization of science. Scientific process begins when someone goes out and looks at nature in a general way, rather than conducting careful sets of experiments. Scientists intuition and personal beliefs influence their work. Occam"s razor > the idea that scientists should prefer the simpler of two models that agree equally well with observations. ~we cannot accept eyewitness testimony by itself as evidence in science. ~as long as nonscientific searches for knowledge make no claims about how the natural world works, they do not conflict with science pseudoscience: false science. Claims about the natural world that seem to be based on observational evidence but do not treat evidence in a truly scientific way. People who see into the future make testable claims but then ignore the results. To distinguish between real science and fake science check whether a particular claim exhibits all 3 hallmarks of science.
