Macbeth Act 2 Scene 1-2
Scene One
Banquo tells Macbeth that he had a dream about the prophecy delivered by the three
witches.
o But Macbeth dismisses Banquo’s dream, claiming that he hasn’t thought about
the prophecy at all.
After Banquo and his son Fleance leave, Macbeth has a vision of a dagger floating in
the hallway.
The handle of the dagger is facing Macbeth’s hand and the sharp tip is facing King
Duncan.
o However, when Macbeth tries to touch the floating dagger, he is unable to do
so.
o He believes there is blood on the dagger’s blade but he dismisses the vision and
blames it on his guilty feelings.
Suddenly, a bell rings - it is Lady Macbeth’s signal that the King’s guards have fallen
asleep and it is time for Macbeth to execute his plan.
