ENG EK 301 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Resultant Force, Rigid Body, Fluid Mechanics
Document Summary
Lecture 1- eng ek 301: mechanics: is a branch of the physical sciences that is concerned with the state of rest or motion of bodies that are subjected to the action of forces. The subject can be further divided into rigid- body mechanics, deformable- body, and fluid mechanics. It is required to know only about the rigid- body mechanics at this level. Rigid- body mechanics is the basic requirements for the study of the deformable bodies and the mechanics of fluids. It is also essential for the design and analysis of many types of structural members, mechanical components, or electrical devices encountered in engineering. Rigid- body mechanics is further divided in to two areas: statics and dynamics: static: deals with the equilibrium of bodies. These bodies are either at rest or moves with constant velocity. The three important idealizations are: particle: has a mass, but the size can be neglected.
