Bag with ice and water, place on skin with a barrier between for 20 minutes. Elevate injury to reduce swelling unless doing so causes pain or exposes a fracture / dislocation: call 9-1-1 if. Vomiting or coughing up blood, or symptoms of shock or mental state. Injured area is blue or pale, abdomen is tender and distended change. Skin that has been rubbed or scrapped away. Cut that has either jagged or smooth edges. Will generally bleed freely, sometimes heavily: avulsions. Serious injury in which a portion of skin (and sometimes other soft tissue) is partially or completely torn away. Body part is severed: punctures / penetrations.
