Document Summary

Copy original and get new copy but still keep old copy. Dispersive: chunk of old helix + chunks of new helix. Break up old helix strand and fuse with chunks of new dna strand. Each strand consists of old and new dna. Semi conservative: strand of new + strand of old. Meselson and stahl = semi conservative is mode of replication in bacterial cells. Result = dna 1/2 n15 and 1/2 n14. Rolling-circle replication: used some viruses and f factor. The f factor plasmid does this during conjugation. Bidirectional: replication occurs in both directions away from the origin origin. Unidirectional: replication only occurs in one direction away from the origin. Creation of okazaki fragments: strands move in 5" to 3" direction. Don"t want the strands to fully fall apart. Just need the nucleotides to snap apart to enable their replication. Make sure strands don"t snap back together before replication is finished.
