People who are tested to obtain data to establish a frame of reference. Requires little subjective judgment in interpretation of answers. Role of the test taker is less clear. More subjectivity in interpreting the test taker"s answers. Measure a person"s previous learning in a specific academic area. Used to assess how much students have learned or what they can do. Assess a person"s potential for learning or ability to perform. Help determine what "maximum" can be expected from a person. Assess a test taker"s ability to cope with the environment, but at a broader level. Often used to screen people for specific programs.
