In the 1700"s voting rights where denied to dependents people who where seen unfit to govern themselves. 1920 the nineteenth amendment included women to vote. 1971 twenty sixth amendment made 18 years old legal voting age. The united states chooses officials who write legislation for people. Switzerland votes in election for officeholders and in national referendum to determine details of public policy. Referendum voting only in state and local elections in the us. Switzerland can review laws and international laws through process of referenda.
