Document Summary

Introduction to business communication: the unifying idea that connects all of communication is that we communicate based on our purpose and audience when done correctly. Business communication: who is your audience: from a professional context, there are two different categories of audiences, internal: those who work for the same organization as someone, external: everyone else. In a business hierarchical structure, communication can move top down, bottom up, and laterally. External audiences: the company can communicate with customers/clients, potential customers/clients, vendors, and potential vendors. In a professional environment, texts and instant messages should occur with internal audiences only: a text message does not carry as much weight as a phone call would. Collaboration on the job: one of the reasons one will use these informal communication strategies will be for professional collaboration, collaborating is the working together toward a common goal, on a common project.
