Document Summary
Chapter 3: the organization and functions of the nervous system. The nervous system is made up of 2 subunits: the central nervous system (cns) and the. The cns consists of the brain and spinal cord. Nerve: bundle of axons in the pns. Tract: bundle of axons in the cns. Ganglion: bundle of cell bodies within the pns. Nucleus: bundle of cell bodies within the cns. In development, the cns starts off as a hollow tube that eventually forms into the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. The lower part of the tube forms into the spinal cord. Forebrain: 2 cerebral hemispheres, thalamus & hypothalamus. The cerebral hemisphere is separated into two by the longitudinal fissure. Each hemisphere receives sensory information and sends out motor information to/from the parts from the opposite side of the body.
