Stats about violence against w/girls typically underestimate the real rates--> highly underreported. 60% of w will suffer from violence at some point in their life. Think of situations in which violence against w is permitted by the state--> w who are stoned for adultery (m are not) Other times, society turns a blind eye on the violence occurring--> sex trades/ traf cking in india, turkey, nigeria in which the family may know their daughter"s fate but does nothing to prevent it. Also, think about all of the ind whose actions lead to the violence. Not just those running the trade, but the m purchasing the young girls. Worldwide studies show that 1/3 of w have been physically assaulted, subjected to coerced sexual activity, and victimized by severe emotional abuse. In some countries, over half of the f murdered are killed by a current/former partner.
