Kyrgyzstan"s protesters were protesting an extreme price hike in essential goods like water and electricity. The country did this because it is almost entirely dependent on electricity exports to. These protestors turned into angry mobs and gangs and attacked many buildings. This led to an all-out war with kyrgyz police. President bakiyev fled and was replaced by roza otunbayeva. She promised to reduce the tariffs and help the poor. However, was continued in the streets as the kyrgyz began attacking the uzbeks. The uzbeks attempted to flee back to uzbekistan but the country refused to let them in. Otunbayeva pled for russian aid but russia refused. The violence left hundreds of citizens dead and thousands homeless. At first glance, it appears the violence flared up over the corrupt kyrgyz government. However, a closer to look into the kyrgyz issue reveals a much more pressing climate issue at heart.
