Development agencies focus on middle-income countries and not on bottom billion. Development buzz: generated by rock stars, celebrities and ngos. The gap between the bottom billion and the rest of the world is getting worse. G8 is the ideal platform to address the issue. Conflicts; landlocked/bad neighbors; natural resources; bad governance. The conflict trap the form of political conflict that turns violent, and civil wars and coups, are what the bottom billion is prone to and potentially what holds them back. Civil war most countries in the bottom billion are currently in or recently were in a civil war. Wars are started for a causality of reasons such as personalities, hatred, etc. Civil war is more likely to occur in low-income countries with little economic growth, especially post-conflict. Dependence upon primary commodity resources such as oil and diamonds also make a state prone to civil war.
