Document Summary

If we consider the heterogeneous system formed by liquid water, ice and water vapor, it is constituted by three homogeneous systems and one component; said homogeneous systems are called phases. Phase: is each of the homogeneous systems, with a perfectly defined separation surface, in which a heterogeneous system can be divided. When a system remains constant indefinitely, without suffering any variation, it is called stable and if it tends to its own decomposition or transformation in a spontaneous way, it is called unstable. The way to separate the substances that form a heterogeneous mixture will use some of the properties of the substances to be separated, properties that are different between the substances that form it. So, for example, if one of the substances is attracted by the magnets, we will use a magnet to separate it from the other substances that make up the heterogeneous mixture. This method is called magnetization or magnetic separation.
