• Types of nervous system cells
o Sensory Neuros
▪ Carries information from a stimulus to another neuron
▪ Such as smell, light, pain
o Motor Neurons
▪ From a neuron to muscle, endocrine cell or cardiac conducting system cell
o Interneuron
▪ One neuron to another
o Other supporting cells called glial cells
▪ You have ten times more glial cells then neurons
o Differences in nervous systems due to different arrangements neurons
o Neurons are arranged in a circuit
▪ Sensory neuron picks up sensory information, propagates action potential,
passed information to interneurons, then to motor neurons
• Neutral Circuits – squid giant synapse

o I – sensory neuron fires an action potential after sensing prey
o II – interneuron receive the signal, and passed on to the motor neuron
o III – motor neuron receives the signal and contracts to propel the squid
• Neural Circuit – patellar tendon reflex
o
• Organization of Animal Body
o Radical Symmetry – more then 1 axis of symmetry such as star
o Bilateral Symmetry – 1 axis of symmetry, such as our body
o Anterior – head end
o Posterior – tail end
o Dorsal – back
o Ventral – front
o Medial – near the axis line
o Lateral – away from the axis line
