Module 47: humanistic theories and trait theories: humanistic theories- focuses on the ways people strive for self-determination and self-realization, abraham maslow"s self-actualizing person. Proposed that people are motivated by the hierarchy of needs. Self-transcendence- finding a purpose: carl rogers" person-centered perspective. Proposed that people are basically good and are endowed with self- actualizing tendencies. Proposed that growth only requires three conditions: genuineness- being open with your own feelings, acceptance- offering unconditional positive regard- an attitude to grace that values knowing failures. Self-concept- all the thoughts and feelings that are in response to a question: assessing the self. Self-concept is positive when people can ideally describe themselves how they actually are. Traits- people"s characteristic behaviors and conscious motives: often described in terms of identifiable behavior patterns. Factor analysis- a statistical procedure that identifies factors of test items that look at basic components of intelligence. Extroverts tend to have low levels of brain arousal: assessing traits.
