NBB 302 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: White Matter, Planum Temporale, Lateral Sulcus
Document Summary
By severing the two hemispheres, there wasn"t an effect, but more that the communication between the two hemispheres was severed. Left hand = mind right: supported idea that each hemisphere was different. "split-brain research" came from idea of "mind left" and "mind right: left hemisphere is analytical and logical while right hemisphere is creative, musical, and intuitive, when the brains are separated/communication is severed, the personalities don"t change, Vi. there"s no mental status change or conflict change. Idea of chapter 4: see differences between right and left hemispheres through split-brain patient studies and unilateral brain lesions. Sylvian fissure - lateral fissure - large sulcus that defines the superior border of the temporal lobe. Planum temporale - cortical area at the center of wernicke"s area - larger in the left hemisphere. In dyslexia - area of planuum temporale is symmetrical in children with dyslexia.
