REL-3112 Chapter Notes - Chapter ALL: Akrasia, Moral Evil, Concupiscence
Document Summary
Sin and death did not exist in the world, the perfect world that god created, until adam and eve expressed their disobedience with the apple from the tree of knowledge. Their sin brought great disharmony in the creation and in humanity, dooming everyone who comes after them. A common agent can"t be held morally responsible for the occurrence of natural evil. Natural evil is a consequence of adam and eve"s irresponsibility. So, augustine see that god is justified in not intervening because people"s suffering is a consequence of human action. Evil can be conceived of as the rejection or the absence of god. Every human, regardless of what they say, has a desire to be their own maker. Given the opportunity to have a choice, also gives us the opportunity to sin, therefore having choices is evil. Sin and death did not exist in the perfect world god created until adam and eve expressed their disobedience by having a choice.
