Document Summary

4. 8c dna as the control center of a cell. The human body is estimated to contain between (cid:331)(cid:326),(cid:326)(cid:326)(cid:326) to (cid:327)(cid:326)(cid:326),(cid:326)(cid:326)(cid:326) different proteins. These proteins serve a vast array of functions that include catalyzing reactions, defense, transport, support, movement, regulation, and storage. Dna is responsible for directing the synthesis of the proteins that carry out body functions. All of those roles explain why dna is considered the control center of the cell and sometimes is referred to as the boss of the cell. Cells divide their nucleus in two ways depending upon the cell type, mitosis and meiosis. Mitosis occurs in somatic cells which are all of the cells in the body other than the sex cells and sex cells form either sperm or oocytes. Cell division occurs when one cell divides to produce two cells. It is essential to produce, replace, and maintain the trillions of cells that form a normally functioning human body.
