He sang in many movies, and his singing scenes were extremely popular. In 1935 he tragically died in a plane crash. A bandoneon player, astor piazzolla, met gardel when he was living in manhattan. He returned to buenos aires to play and compose music until he went to work in france. In his tango music, he incorporated jazz and classical styles, and his success brought about the music innovation called tango nuevo. He was misunderstood in his own time, but currently he is the best-known tango composer on the planet tango declined in the late 1950s after a military coup in argentina.
