Earliest inhabitants of the americas crossed the land bridge beringia (bering strait) 12,000-14,000 years ago. About 12,500 sea levels rose and separated the populations of humans on each continent. Paleo-indians - first americans, nomadic hunters of game and gathers of wild plants. Ice age or over hunting decimated the food population. Lived 4,000 years ago near the gulf of mexico in cities with pyramids. Mayans and teotihuacan lived 2,000 years ago. Founded in the valley of mexico about 300 bce (before common era) Probably housed 100,00 people in 5th century. City-states engaged in near-constant battle with one another , like europeans did at the time.
