PSC 1003 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Liberal Internationalism, Cengage Learning, Global Commons
Document Summary
While liberal internationalists may correctly point out the exaggeration of bad news in the media, pessimists are justified in arguing that this is a more dangerous world than ever before. Terrorism is one factor that contributes to the danger in the world today. The magnitude of the 9/11 terrorist attacks show the impact and ability of terrorist groups to have on countries. In addition, the presence of nuclear weaponry, increases the danger of the world today. While some argue that nuclear weapons can actually help deter war (shimko 265) there is little evidence for this. As more countries get closer to obtaining more nuclear weapons, the more dangerous the world becomes. Even though the use of the nuclear weapons may be rare, the costs of one being used, or getting into the wrong hands is far too high. Finally, the environmental issues also pose a threat to the world today.
