Document Summary

Freud believed that all human children go through his proposed stages and that the events occurring in these stages helped shape overall personality characteristics. Erogenous zone: a source of pleasure and stimulation that trumps all others in a certain developmental stage. Fixation- due to the either over gratification or under gratification of a need, this occurs when a large amount of psychological energy remains focused on images and events that are used to satisfy one of the stages of development. Neurosis or regression of a person"s personality is usually due to the fact that the person has become fixated at a certain stage. Erogenous zone: anus/buttocks (child must become toilet trained) Activities if fixated: lack of spinchter control, too generous. Erogenous zone: penis (freud considered a clitoris a small penis) Freud believed that young girls were often jealous of their father"s and peer"s penis. Male oedipus complex: both children develop strong feelings toward their mother from birth, onward.
